Government administration, Tiraspol
Walk through Tiraspol, Bender or any other city in Pridnestrovie, and you can't miss the proud display of the country's the red and green flag flying from businesses, government buildings and in front of private homes. Ever since 1990, when the flag became a symbol of the country's newfound independence, its citizens display it with the same energy that they put into building the institutions of the country and its government.

Pridnestrovie today is an independent republic with a full set of government institutions: It's own parliament, a central bank, courts, a modern democratic Constitution, army, police, border patrol, human rights monitors, a health service, public education system, environmental protection, tax collection and all the other attributes of a modern independent state.

Head of state is democratically elected president Igor Smirnov, the son of a political prisoner under Stalin. The nation's parliament is currently in control of the opposition, under speaker Yevgeny Shevchuk. [ More ]

Efficient public administration
The country emerged into freedom in the breakup of the Soviet Union. Today, Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublica is a sovereign, independent, democratic republic with separation of powers and a constitutional system of checks and balances. The public administration is efficient: For the past 16 years, Pridnestrovie has been successful in delivering all of the basic fundamental public goods expected from the state, such as property rights, pensions, crime prevention, roads, the population's energy needs, health care and education. The country has its own Supreme Court and thirteen government ministries, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Throughout the lifetime of the country, from its founding in 1990, it's government has provided a social safety net and, importantly, food security for all of its citizens. The most basic indicator of good governance is the simple fact that there has never been food shortages in Pridnestrovie. None of its children ever go to bed hungry.
The state receives no funding or other assistance from Moldova in any way whatsoever. It's foreign policy is focused on European integration and the development of international relations with other countries who share Pridnestrovie's respect for the sovereignty of a people to freely and independently choose its own form of government.
